...and in due course the "limited editions" were followed by a regular CD release.Good luck ebay flippers selling those £50, £75, £100 versions. I just bought a normal one for £13 in my local HMV.
Uriel
Nah I wasn't saying that; merely that some run-of-the-mill soundtrack collectors were scrabbling to use the website in the fear that the versions sold there were going to be all there was. And that some other opportunists were hoping that some of that first bunch of people would be willing to pay over the odds to buy from *them* once the official stock ran out. Now I'm sure a FEW will - as you say, those who care specifically for collecting limited editions - but the majority who just wanted to own the music will have been happier to see the regular release turn up in their local music stores.
Fearlessrunner
Are you saying there is no demand for limited or special editions? I'm pretty sure that the limited release will be hunted for by collectors in the future, whereas the standard edition will not.
Mardin
Excellent film. Horrible soundtrack, Hans Zimmer was not a clever option. No Vangelis, well the was a pitty...
Dakora
I wouldn't go as far as "horrible", but yeah it could have been a lot more in-keeping with the spirit of the original than the wall-of-noise approach that we got. With Vangelis clearly out of the equation (and we all wonder what Johansson's music was/would have been like), I wonder who *else* might have been a good fit. Mothersbaugh? Serra? Arnold? Some combination of the above?
Madis
Good news for some, i hope :) This morning, i passed by my favorite soundtrack seller website here in USA (Screen Archives Entertainment) and they had finally today listed it for sale (pre-order) It doesnt say anything about it being limited or a double cd, but who cares, right? It has all 24 songs listed and a yummy pricetag too. As of today, other sites also appear to have the film score listed as available for pre-order. For my part, i say thanks SAE! and happy shopping everyone!!
Nagis
Just to let you all know the site as of 25/26 October had issues processing int'l orders with Paypal and would not allow the order to be completed. I called their help-line and was able to order over the phone for 30 bucks US.
Winasana
I was having the same issue, but when I switched to my laptop from my phone, and DIDN'T use the 'same as billing address' option, it let me order no problem (before then, the Place Order button wasn't showing up).
Buzatus
Thanks for info. I checked, and i was processing by pay pal 25 october, and it went ok.
Dobpota
Well folks just wanted to let you all know that the preorders for this version of the soundtrack on vinyl seem to be out. I went back to the site to look over the preorder again to read more information and the site says it's unavailable. It was a 200gram Audiophile version. But there is a 150 gram version up for preorder on Bullmoose now. Here's a link for that one. http://www.bullmoose.com/p/26111283/blade-runner-2049-soundtrack-2-lp-150g-w-download-insert
Punind
Well geeze ok then... Hope my preorder is still good. hmm...
Budar
True. I think there is only one version at this point. Thats all :)
HelloBoB:D
There was NEVER a 200g pressing. Website misprint. Confirmed by email from Musictoday customer service email.
Gribandis
I dont think so, i think, at this point is only one version and there are some diferences about weight and tracks in some sites. "Musictoday II, LLC, is the seller of all Blade Runner 2049 merchandise and is solely responsible for all aspects of your purchase." So, ALL means ALL i think. Musictoday is also part of Epic Records. We will see, i also counting for colour vinyl with different cover... ;>
Hanelynai
Yes I believe so. Three versions... Perhaps a colored will also come out at some point on a special site like Newbury Comics or something. I'd be a sucker for that one as well.
Lianeni
I'm pretty certain it was a 200gram version but it must have sold out because I went back to the site and now they are selling the 180gram like you said. I saw the link on The Vinyl Factory site ( It now links to the 180gram version) and the original link was for 200gram and it also had the Elvis and Sinatra tracks on it. The 180gram omits those (which I would have like to have had done on the 200gram...) Regardless folks still have a chance to purchase this awesome soundtrack in some form. It's quite excellent I'd say.
Landarn
I think the 150g version is the mass market version. Tracklist on the 180g version omits the Sinatra and Elvis tracks. Almost human is still on the 180g version.
Hidden Winter
BullMoose only lists 180g, so no plans for a 200g version. Unless, they took it down and it sold out. I ordered the 180g version and that appears to be the high quality vinyl version.
Cerekelv
Interesting that the MusicToday pre-order for a 180gram (limited to 2000 numbered copies) version is still available at this point. So are there three vinyl versions coming out? i.e. 150g, 180g and 200g? Seems unusual.
Undeyn
Here's a link for the vinyl preorder. Limited to 2500 numbered copies. Thanks to rendezvous65 for the hot tip! https://bladerunner2049.shop.musictoday.com/product/Y4LPBR01/blade-runner-2049-original-motion-picture-soundtrack-2disc-lp?cp=98847_98848

Ok I feel bad because I'm late on this, but I pre-ordered a COMFIRMED reissue of the original soundtrack from Two Headed Dog. I got email confirmation, shipping confirmations and a reply from the site telling me that yes, it's on backorder for a reissue and will be shipped at a later date. The pre-orders were appearing and disappearing from the site frequently, so there's hopefully a chance that it might show back up again. I'm guessing they didn't want to oversell their allocation. It's a reissue of the red colored copy. Here's a link to the page. You should sign up for the mailing list incase it shows back up again. http://www.twoheadeddog.com/vangelis-blade-runner-soundtrack-lp/ I did this about a week or two ago, so it's not that far back when this happened. I got lucky from a person who posted the link one the discogs page for the original red reissue.
Small Black
Your welcome and I preordered my copy, eventually I want to get the original soundtrack but someday a good pressing will come out at a more reasonable price.

No one should expect a similar soundtrack to 1982’s Blade Runner without being delusional, we are in 2017 in which most soundtracks made recur less to lyricism and much more to plain atmosphere and immediate effectism. Cinema has changed a lot since the 80’s as well, image priviledge over everything else and this principle adheres strongly to a movie just like BR 2049. Fact is the movie overwhelms with photographic detail to tonalities, contexts and superlative scenarios, we should guess that Zimmer felt really comfortable here, this is what he has been doing for his most recent soundtracks, as a manner of criticism his participation in Dunkirk guards many similarities with this movie, especially with his massive use of deep bass sounds, spatial atmospheres and general apotheosis dark ambience. Vangelis music has little in common with this, which is more in vicinity with new age florid and ethereal form, while this is rabidly close to dark ambient, very post Industrial and atonal normativity for composition.I find the Zimmer soundtrack very appealing, although at times repetitive (as in Dunkirk), it accompanied the movie very effectively and induce the states suitable for the frames, but I would like to have a second opinion by experiencing the soundtrack alone and without images in order to have a deeper understanding.
Kelerius
I for one welcomed to harshness of this score given that 2049 is indeed a different movie than the original.
godlike
Absolute garbage OST. Created with a little over a month prior to the films release, there is very little feeling to be found in any of it. Missing are the soaring Vangelis inspired melodies, gone are the balanced atmospheric synth work outs, and no where do you hear diverse cultural interplays of sonic representation.I hope that we get to hear what Jóhann Jóhannsson created for this film, because if we remember the opening music to the first trailer of this film, it was evident he had tapped into the spirit of Vangelis.
Frostdefender
Check out the Pusher Collective website... they create trailers for most Hollywood studio movies these days, the music you refer to when comparing with Vangelis was actually created by Joshua Sabin and Safari Riot. They weren't 'tapping' into the spirit of Vangelis - Sabins' contribution as a piece, was available way before it was used in the trailer. The Blade Runner theme was a straight cover, with a 2016 twist, produced for the trailer by Pusher.
Minnai
Thanks for this detailed info. To be clear, my comment about the music trailer wasn't "irrelevant", but it was inaccurate according to your account.

adam01 Absolute garbage OST. I have heard much of Jóhann Jóhannssons' work in progress score for 2049, as I was an audience member at the Sony/Alcon industry invite preview of the movie, where almost all the music was produced by him with several filler pieces from other movies. It wasn't great, had near to zero energy or presence, wandered too far from the subject matter and was one of the main issues people had when filling out the test screen forms at the end of the showing. It was clear there was a problem - that's why Jóhann Jóhannsson was quickly and quietly removed. Your quote 'I hope that we get to hear what Jóhann Jóhannsson created for this film, because if we remember the opening music to the first trailer of this film, it was evident he had tapped into the spirit of Vangelis.' is irrelevant, as none of the music in that trailer was produced by Jóhannsson, it was commissioned by Alcon, through Warners from Pusher (Trailer music designers). (even confirmed by Jóhannsson himself.)
KiddenDan
I was rather afraid of the final score because Hans Zimmer, while a remarkable composer, has suffered a case of having scores that sound the same as of late, the one variation being 2014's Interstellar. However, I sort of forgot that he did it while watching the film because of how different it felt. Maybe it was Benjamin Wallfisch's touch as well but this score maintains the electronic darkness of Vangelis' work, just like how the film itself respects the original while still feeling fresh and new. Whether or not it'll be as memorable as the original's remains to be seen but it's a nice change of pace for Zimmer.
Gold Crown
Making these CD editions each limited to 2,049 copies each is cute and all, but from what I see on ebay a bunch of them wound up in the hands of scalpers and fetched triple digit prices in some cases. Just do a standard release ffs.
Bladecliff
Should have stuck with Jóhann Jóhannsson, this is rubbish .
Akir
The rubbish stuck in your ears man. This is immaculate.
Quashant
can you let me no when it comes out on cd format plz
Impala Frozen
Those were only the 'edition limited to 2049 copies' versions. Identical double cd sets are available widely now, minus the 'limited edition numbered' status of course.
Manemanu
It already did. And it's already sold out. https://bladerunner2049.shop.musictoday.com/store/Sorry. :/
Tholmeena
Any news about vinyl release? I cant find anything about it. :>
Gorisar
2,500 copies and I have pre ordered my copy. I believe this is the 180g "Audiophile" edition and I also hear a 150g version also exists on sites like BullMoose, so it would be interesting to compare which version has the best sound.

Nenayally
Don't worry, they'll probably only press 2,049 copies of that too >:-|
Najinn
Nothing yet good buddy. I'm sure it will come out this year or at least be announced. Zimmer's stuff always sells.
Doukasa
Vinyl release please! I need it alongside the Blade Runner soundtrack once I get it.
Cha
Pre-order is back up on the two headed dog site! Get in on it now if you want a copy. http://www.twoheadeddog.com/vangelis-blade-runner-soundtrack-lp/
Best West
I recently made a pre-order for the original soundtrack from two headed dog. It's seems to have stopped again and there's a mailing list on their site, but if you want a copy without having to pay the crazy prices on this site I would go check out two headed dog and see if you can score one. It's a red colored vinyl as well.
Dianalmeena
CD ?? this is 1980 technology. We need some weird analog to digital to analog, to 3d hologram audio/video format here.
in waiting
pragnacco You are right! I want holographic version of this release (really confortable to take around or to listen in the car) with obvious support of joi technology.
Enone
Get me this on vinyl now! lol This soundtrack while not as elegant as the Vangelis score from the first film, nonetheless helped seal in the atmospheric tones of the sequel and made the world feel monstrous and overwhelming. The feeling of dread was all over and made for a very ambient, yet claustrophobic film which I loved. The bleakness accompanied by what I imagine as "living towers moving like mountains" really helped alleviate what would have been a simple carbon copy with slight remixes of the original score. The film wouldn't have worked without this soundtrack and I will stand firm and say it's Zimmer's best.
Rigiot
Definitely agree here. Just as the Vangelis soundtrack helped shape the delight that was Blade Runner, this soundtrack also immensely added to the immersive experience of the film. It was absolutely on point by being LIKE Vangelis but being it's own breed to fit the 21st century film. As I was watching it, being drawn in, I knew I wanted this recording. Thanks for the vinyl link as well, ordered it immediately!
